At a press conference today, NY Gov. Governor Andrew Cuomo denied that he covered up COVID nursing home deaths and claimed that the ”New York State DOH fully and publically reported all COVID deaths in our nursing homes and hospitals” and that “we voluntarily complied with the DOJ request for information.”

This contradicts a statement made last week by his secretary Melissa DeRosa, who told NY Democrats that the administration covered up COVID-19 nursing home deaths because they feared that the data could “be used against us” by the Dept. of Justice.
This also contradicts a report released by the NY Attorney General Letitia James that revealed the Cuomo administration underreported COVID-19 related nursing home deaths by as much as 56%.
The Cuomo administration has been subject to harsh criticism since early 2020 over the decision to direct NY nursing homes to accept COVID positive patients and those showing symptoms of COVID.
Cuomo said today that he made this decision because “seniors should not stay in hospitals longer than necessary because of the risk of secondary infection.”
He also blamed the CDC, whose guidelines (at the time) said that residents leaving hospitals were likely not contagious.
Cuomo went on to state that another reason he made this decision was because he was worried about the NY hospital system becoming overwhelmed.
He then claimed that “COVID did not get into the nursing homes by people coming from hospitals. COVID got into the nursing homes by staff walking into the nursing home.” Cuomo did not provide evidence to back this claim up.

Gov. Cuomo finished his press conference by blaming his alleged COVID nursing home deaths coverup on “misinformation” and “conspiracy theories,” and stating that he believes “Everything is politicized!”
